Detailed Journey of Carunnai Special School & Home

Carunnai Special School in Puducherry is a dedicated institution providing education and support for children with disabilities. Founded by C. Ganeshan, the school was inspired by a visit to a camp for children with disabilities. Initially established as a non-formal education center, it has since evolved into a comprehensive support system that caters to over 85 students, including orphans. The school focuses on academic, vocational, and life skills development, aiming to create a nurturing environment for every child’s growth.

In addition to educational support, Carunnai Special School offers a variety of therapies, including physiotherapy, speech therapy, and visual stimulation, all tailored to individual needs. Ganeshan, alongside his wife Revathi, a specialist in audiology and speech therapy, has worked to empower these children through personalized education plans and therapeutic interventions. The school has achieved remarkable success, with several students completing secondary education through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and pursuing vocational training.
